The most recent official statistics on COVID-19 infections suggest that we have either reached or are approaching the 2026 seasonal lows in new COVID infections.
Nationally, as you can see from the Canada-wide municipal wastewater COVID testing curve in our current composite chart, viral counts have levelled out at their lowest rate yet. That’s consistent with Ontario’s PCR COVID testing results which have likewise stabilized at a record low, as have Ontario COVID hospitalizations and ICU bed occupancy.
That’s about all that is currently reportable since this is the off week in Public Health Canada’s biweekly reporting on currently-circulating COVID variants. Their most recent report had shown the new PQ family of Omicron variants had surpassed the previously-dominant XFG family in terms of share of new COVID infections. That is unlikely to have changed. We are also awaiting the next monthly report by the more independent statisticians at COVID-19 Resources Canada.
